COTABATO CITY - Officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao are confident the incoming leaders of the Bangsamoro political entity will maximize efforts of bringing out the best among students under their watch. The ARMM shall be replaced with the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, or BARMM, if the Bangsamoro Organic Law, the enabling measure for such switch, gets ratified via a plebiscite on January 21, 2019.Lawyer Rasol Mitmug, Jr., regional secretary of DepEd-ARMM, said Friday the upcoming BARMM outfit will surely be proud of how students in the present autonomous region are markedly at par with those in the Visayas, in Luzon and in Metro Manila. He said seven students, in fact, recently brought the ARMM fame and honor in what is for many regional officials tacit indications that those in the region's youth sector are just as competitive with those in other parts of the country.Mitmug said all seven students who have just joined competitions in Metro Manila and abroad are all from public schools.Regional officials tendered for them a simple testimonial banquet at the ARMM regional capitol last Wednesday.Mitmug said Ricco Teraytay of the Camp Siongco National High School in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao was a finalist in the 2018 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship events last Nov. 15 to 18 in Taipei, Taiwan.Mitmug said 59 countries participated in the Taekwondo competition.Another student, Yahser Malang of ARMM’s Regional Science High School, was one of the two grand finalists in the Sout The DepEd-ARMM and our regional governor, Mujiv Hataman, are glad with the honor they brought home, all seven of them, Mitmug said Saturday.Mitmug said besides Teraytay and Malang, five more students of the Parang National High School in Parang, Maguindanao were champion in the Science Investigatory Project Contest last Nov. 16 in Olongapo City. The executive department of ARMM and the DepEd-ARMM community are happy with these feats, Mitmug said.Functions and powers of DepEd were devolved to the executive department of ARMM based on the region’s charter, the Republic Act 9054.Hataman, now in his second term as ARMM governor, said Saturday he is certain the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which is to lead the BARMM, will sustain the education programs of the present autonomous regional government. The MILF will lead the transitory team that would oversee the transition from ARMM to BARMM pending an election of its pioneering set of regional officials. We don't have an iota of doubt on the capability of the MILF to pursue the education and extra-curricular advancement of ARMM's Muslim, Christian and Lumad elementary pupils, high school and college students. That's why we will vote in favor of the Bangsamoro Organic Law during the plebiscite on January 21 next year, Hataman said.
