BFP-North Cotabato records 44 fires in Q1
KIDAPAWAN CITY – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in North Cotabato reported 44 fire incidents during the first quarter of this year that damaged more than P88 million worth of properties.
Five persons were reported killed during various conflagration.
Fire Officer Samyr Mundas of BFP-North Cotabato said this year's number of fires was almost the same during the same period last year.
Mundas, speaking in behalf of BFP North Cotabato told dxND-Radyo Bida that the cost of damages was based on bureau’s initial assessment.
The fire that razed to the ground Sugni Superstore in Kabacan, North Cotabato was the biggest in terms of property damages at more than P70 million.
Mundas said fire incidents this year involved some residential houses, educational building, bush fires, business, electrical post and vehicular incidents.
Mundas said the common cause of fire is electrical short circuit. Other causes were open flame, unattended fire and unknown causes or arson.
However, the BFP was appealing to the public to be cautious and be aware of fire safety tips while they’re intensifying their safety inspections and information drive. Rhoderick Beñez
