Basilan now has 1st ever PSWDO training facility

BASILAN --- The province now has a new multi-million training center built by the provincial government to boost its capacity-building efforts for social welfare service stakeholders.
Gov. Jim Salliman said Monday they inaugurated last week the newly-built facility, to be operated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, or PSWDO.
The center is located in Barangay Sumagdang in Isabela City in Basilan.
It is a venue for psycho-social and socio-economic capacity-enhancement trainings for beneficiaries of social welfare services, according to Salliman.
The governor and senior officials of the provincial government led last week’s symbolic inauguration of the training center, the first ever in Basilan.
Salliman said he has directed PSWDO chief Anwary Akalun to maximize the use of the training center for activities that can empower the sectors they ought to serve, regardless of ethnicity and religions.
Basilan, covering two cities --- Isabela and Lamitan and 11 municipalities --- is home to Tausug, Samah, Yakan, Badjao, Zamboangueño and Visayan residents.
The provincial government shall also embark soon on more projects meant to improve the local economy and the delivery of services to its constituent-communities.
Provincial officials held last week a procedural pre-procurement conference, as required by state accounting regulations, for four upcoming high-ticket projects of Salliman’s office.
The projects, an ice plant and cold storage in Maluso town (P20 million), a two-storey multi-purpose hall in Barangay Kalugusan in Lamitan City (P2 million), an agricultural greenhouse facility with an Israeli-styled drip irrigation system in Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City (P4 million), are to be implemented soon.
Officials also discussed during the conference, held at Basilan provincial engineer’s office, the purchase of more than P14 million worth of construction materials for the second phase of the Lamitan District Hospital in Barangay Limook in Lamitan City.
Salliman said he wants the communities in the recipient barangays to help him monitor the implementation of the four projects.
