Basilan LGUs granted SGLG in Metro Manila rite

The SGLG awarding rite was held in Metro Manila Tuesday night.
COTABATO CITY --- Four local government units in Basilan --- the provincial government and the LGUs of Lamitan City and the neighboring Sumisip and Maluso towns --- each received the 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance during a special rite in Metro Manila Tuesday.
Lamitan City’s 2019 SGLG award was its fourth since 2016, something first ever in the history of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao that existed for 29 years and got replaced with a Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, or BARMM, early this year.
The provincial government of Basilan, led by the now second-termer Gov. Jim Salliman, first got an SGLG citation in 2018 and, subsequently, this year.
Salliman personally received the provincial government‘s 2019 SGLG award on Tuesday night in an event in Metro Manila that the office of Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año organized.
This year’s SGLG awards Maluso and Sumisip received were third for each in the past three years.
The grant of SGLG is a yearly activity of the national government, via the office of the DILG secretary, in recognition of the governance feats of provincial, city and municipal governments in all regions in the country, including BARMM.
The award is also based on each LGU’s efficiency in handling of fiscal resources and implementation of domestic socio-economic and peace and security efforts benefiting constituents, regardless of ethnicity and religions.
