6 die, 5 hurt in clashes between gunmen, Army in Sultan Kudarat
COTABATO CITY -- A leader of lawless Moro armed group with link to terror group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and five of his followers were killed in an intense clashes against the military troops Friday in Lambayong town in Sultan Kudarat.
Troops of 601st Infantry (Unifier) Brigade through the 40th Infantry (Magiting) Battalion under Lt. Col. Rogelio S. Gabi launched the law enforcement operation targetting ALG commander Tugali Guiamal Galmak, a.k.a. Commander Tugal, in Purok Galmak, Barangay Baumol, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat on June 4, 2020.
“Tugali is an ALG commander and a former member of Pentagon/KFRG believed to be an ally of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) operating in Central Mindanao,” said Col Joel Mamon OIC, 601st Infantry Brigade.
"When our troops reached the area at 6:29 in the morning, our target was reinforced with more or less 20 fully armed men from Barangay Langgapanan," said Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, JTF Central Commander.
The Firefight has resulted in the deaths of six persons and wounding of 5 others.
Said encounter further resulted in the apprehension of 14 more ALG members, including Commander Tugali, seizure of 16 firearms, explosives and IEDs.
The military said the IED’s found have the "signatures" of IEDs previously in the area.
