After 61 years, Philippines wins gold in Asian basketball

COTABATO CITY - The Gilas Pilipinas today ended a six-decade gold medal drought Asian basketball after defeating Jordan 70-60 in Hangzhou, China.

Once again Filipino naturalized player Justine Brownlee carried the fight for Gilas Pilipinas. He scored 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Angelo Kouame had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Coach Tim Cone also made history by making the best basketball team in just 12 days before the tournament began in China.

NoCot swimmer wins gold medals in Palarong Pambansa

KIDAPAWAN CITY - North Cotabato's swimmer delivered a stellar performance as she clinched the first gold medal for the Soccsksargen Region in the Palaraong Pambansa 2023 in Marikina City.

Jie Angela Mikaila Talosig, 17, of Southern Christian College in Midsayap, has won the medal in the secondary girls' 400M freestyle swimming event.

She also won another gold medal in the 200M freestyle swimming girls secondary competition.

3 Mindanaons win silver, bronze medals in international competitions

COTABATO CITY - Two from the Bangsamoro region and another from Soccsksargen gave Mindanao honor for having garnered medals in a Taekwondo competition in South Korea and the 55th International Chemistry Olympiad in Switzerland.

The Taekwondo jins Mark Balcita and Rico Teraytay each got silver medals in the July 21-24 World Taekwondo Hanmadang Championship Games in Seongnam, South Korea.

COTABATO CITY – Early morning rains did not stop athletes from warming up for the second day, Saturday of the regional sports competition at the (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association) events here.

Palarong BARMMAA started with a late Thursday afternoon parade, a long queue from the city plaza to the Cotabato State University (CSU) grounds here.

A graduate of Notre Dame University in Cotabato City has helped Far Eastern University football team secured its 10th UAAP Men's Football championship after dethroning Ateneo de Manila University, 4-1, in the Season 85 Final on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

It ended eight years of title drought since The Tamaraws last won the men's football crown back in UAAP Season 77 (2014-15).

BARMM hails athlete in gold-winning PH tennis team

THE Philippine Soft Tennis Team will take home the gold from the 32nd South East Asian (SEA) Games in Phnom Penh.

The country’s soft tennis team shone through as Cristy Sañosa, Fatima Ayesha Amirul, Noelle Conchita Mañalac, Noelle Nikki Zoleta, Princess Lorben Catindig and Virvienica Isearis Bejosano cheerfully steered the event with wins to the end.

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) particularly hailed the top platform win for the gold with home-grown Amirul who is from Tawi-Tawi.

Gilas' comeback vs. Jordan falls short

BOCAUE – Jordan overcame a Gilas Pilipinas comeback and won, 91-90, in their FIBA World Cup Qualifiers clash on Monday night at the Philippine Arena.

A red-hot first half turned out to be just enough for the Jordanians as Gilas could not complete a comeback from 25 points down.

Jordan sizzled early on and raced to a 33-14 first-quarter lead.

Although Gilas made some feelers in the second quarter, Jordan finished the quarter strong to enter halftime leading, 60-41.
