UPI,
Maguindanao – Anticipating possible calamity that could claim lives, the local
government here reacted just in time to save lives and properties after floods
hit upland villages Tuesday, disaster officials said.

Heavy downpour at about 11 a.m. brought about by inter-tropical convergence zone
affecting Mindanao triggered flash floods, soil erosion and small landslides in
the villages of Nangi, Borongotan, Blensong, Nuro, Darugao, Rempes, Kaba-kaba
and other barangays.

Upi Mayor
Ramon Piang, chair of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management
council (MDRRMC) and Jonas Minted, MDRRM officer, quickly mobilized all available
manpower and resources to prevent destruction and save lives.

No casualties
have been monitored and recorded. We
have 15 families evacuees composed of about 47 individuals from Purok 11,
Barangay Nuro Poblacion, now at municipal gymnasium, Minted said.

They have
been accounted by the MSWD and served by the BDRRMC of Nuro on their immediate
needs like food and water, he added.

The Upi MDRRMC
has directed all barangays officials to monitor and be alert especially in the
flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

Minted also
advised residents, especially those families living near the flood prone and
landslide prone areas to leave and go to the nearest barangay evacuation
centers. They were also advised to stay in their relatives’ homes in safer locations
to avoid accidents.

Damages to
crops were reported but the town agriculture office is still assessing the cost
damages.

Close
monitoring continues, Minted said. The working Upi MDRRMC Image may contain 1 person standing child and outdoor sand//scontent.fmnl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20155813_1417563911624322_791535837895347922_n.jpg?oh=7b3ccddbf7309b427c98c54037d31303:ampoe=59C6CE10 Image may contain one or more people outdoor and nature sand//scontent.fmnl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20139694_1417564638290916_4160651348048196787_n.jpg?oh=49b5609c83f47f8c8e670ef3c13b5d79andampoe=59F707F4 Image may contain 3 people child and outdoor sand//scontent.fmnl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20106694_1417564681624245_9010372965309309918_n.jpg?oh=3d743d7166c74132199a5ccd1e256071andampoe=5A0945AE Image may contain one or more people outdoor and nature sand//scontent.fmnl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/20106621_1417564978290882_3148409812025381157_n.jpg?oh=eaacf7305e9307681d771dc367f5c8a9andampoe=5A0100B7
