Salliman reelected, Lamitan’s Furigay awaiting proclamation

COTABATO CITY --- Two public officials in Basilan, the re-electionist Gov. Jim Salliman and Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay, candidate for mayor of Lamitan City, are now both awaiting proclamation by the poll body.

As of Tuesday morning, tallies by local poll personnel indicated that the second-termer Salliman already has 93, 381 votes, as against the 63, 422 votes garnered by contender Alfiya Akbar during Monday’s electoral exercise.

In Lamitan City, the mayoral candidate Furigay, a three-termer vice mayor, already has 19,575 votes by past 10:00 p.m. Monday.

Initial count shows BBM, Sara leading partial, unofficial tally

MANILA – Former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte are leading the presidential and vice presidential race, according to the partial and unofficial released by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) through its transparency server as of 8:32 p.m.

3 dead, 2 wounded in Lanao del Sur election-related gunfight

MALABANG, Lanao del Sur --Three were killed while two others were wounded in a shootout on Monday morning inside the campus here of the Malabang National High School.

Two of the fatalities, Ambol Macapodi and Ansano Paramata, are relatives of mayoral candidate Al-Rashid Boloto Macapodi, who is brother of the incumbent mayor here.

The third fatality, Jong Balindong, is related to another aspirant for the mayoral seat in this municipality, Dagar Balindong.

Another blast rocks Maguindanao, 6 hurt

COTABATO CITY - Unidentified men fired an M-79 grenade toward a voting center in Datu Piang, Maguindanao that ledt six voters injured, police said.

The rifle grenade landed in their midst while waiting to cast their votes in Datu Piang, Maguindanao.

Major Roldan Kundong, Maguindanao police spokesperson, said the rifle grenade fired from somewhere landed beside the covered court inside Datu Piang Elementary School in Barangay Buayan at 11:15 a.m.

2 hurt in machete attack in Lanao Sur school campus

COTABATO CITY --- Three men armed with sharp machetes hacked and seriously wounded two voters in a polling precinct in Saguiaran town in Lanao del Sur at about 8:00 a.m. Monday.

The victims, Naim Rasdie Macunte, an employee of the Saguiaran municipal government, and Salman Acmad were immediately rushed to the Amai Pakpak Hospital in Marawi City for treatment.

UPDATE: 9 hurt in Maguindanao grenade attacks

COTABATO CITY --- Nine were hurt in powerful explosions that rocked Maguindanao’s adjoining Shariff Aguak and Datu Unsay Ampatuan towns Sunday night.

Col. Jibin Bongcayao, police director of Maguindanao, said Monday four 40 millimeter grenade projectiles fired from a distance using launchers landed and went off in the surroundings of the town hall of Datu Unsay town.

Nine villagers were hurt in the blasts, some of them minors.

Bongcayao said the victims were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Commotion in front of Comelec-BARMM office leaves 1 car damaged

COTABATO CITY - A vehicle parked in front of Comelec-BARMM office inside the Bangsamoro Government Center was damaged when supporters of candidates traded sticks and plastic water containers on Saturday night.

The Comelec was to administer and facilitate the final testin and sealign of vote counting machines and ohter election parahernalia for Monday's balloting when commotion erupted.

16 violent election-related recorded in 4 months

MANILA – A day before 67.5 million Filipino troop to polling centers, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed 16 validated cases of violent election-related incidents (ERIs) across the country since the election period started on January 9 with the gun ban.

In a virtual press conference on Sunday, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the number was much lower than 133 in the 2016 national and 60 in the 2019 mid-term polls.

Gun ban violators and confiscated firearms were likewise 50 percent lower than in the two previous elections.

SK gov aspirant gets TRO over Comelec ruling

COTABATO CITY – The Supreme Court on Friday issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against a Comelec ruling canceling the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) of gubernatorial aspirant Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu of Sultan Kudarat.

“Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu’s candidacy remains valid, legal and legitimate,” according to his lawyer Atty. Cyrus Torreña.

Copies of the Supreme Court’s TRO were shared to the local media Friday night.

The highest court gave both parties 10 non-extendable days to comment on the TRO.

Teachers protest “hasty changes” in poll duties

COTABATO CITY  – An estimated 200 teachers earlier assigned as electoral board in the city have protested the alleged replacement of their names to serve the May 9 polls by teachers who have no certification from Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

“We were surprised to learn about this hasty changes during the orientation, our replacements were mentors of Madaris (Islamic schools) who have not been trained on poll duties, specifically on the handling of vote-counting machines,” one of the teachers told reporters.
