Moneylender killed, husband wounded in GenSan ambush

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Gunmen killed a businesswoman and wounded her husband in an ambush in Barangay Fatima here before dawn Tuesday.

Col. Jomar Alexis Yap, director of the General Santos City Police Office, said Amelia Tajala was declared by physicians dead on arrival at the GenSan Medical Center where she was rushed by responding policemen for treatment.

Tajala’s husband, Belgar, was seriously wounded in the attack.

Woman killed with broken liquor bottle by boyfriend

COTABATO CITY --- An alleged drug dependent stabbed dead Sunday using a broken liquor bottle his 22-year-old live-in partner in Don Carlos town in Bukidnon.

In an initial statement Sunday, the Bukidnon Provincial Police Office, said the fatality, Kimberly Achas, 22, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was declared dead on arrival by physicians in a hospital where policemen and barangay tanods rushed him for treatment.

Lamitan City’s 2023-2025 security plan set

COTABATO CITY - The Lamitan City peace and order council adopted Thursday a 2023-2025 peace and order and public safety plan for all of the more than 40 barangays under its jurisdiction.

The three-year plan is meant to boost local security and the business climate in Lamitan City in Basilan.

Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay said Saturday members of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) approved the measure during a session Thursday, the first for this year.

Lamitan LGU constructs houses for raffle prize winners

COTABATO CITY The Lamitan City government is now constructing 23 houses won by residents in separate raffles during the recent Yuletide Season and Valentine’s Day.

Mayor Roderick Furigay said Friday 17 of the house and lot prizes were raffled from December 21, 2022 to January 6, 2023.

Three of the 17 raffle winners, Salwa Aukasa, Sikal Ismael and Sabtila Iting, have separately expressed gratitude to their local government unit for the house and lot that they have won each in a series of draws during the Yuletide Season.

Cops uproot 25,489 marijuana shrubs in Lanao del Sur

COTABATO CITY --- Policemen on Friday uprooted 25, 489 marijuana shrubs planted in rows in a secluded hinterland in Maguing town in Lanao del Sur.

Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, told reporters Sunday the teams involved in the operation in Barangay Bato-Bato immediately set the marijuana plants on fire after collecting specimen to be used as evidence in prosecuting its propagators.

Guyguyon said their anti-narcotics operatives placed at no less than P5 million the value of the confiscated marijuana plants.

15 human trafficking victims rescued in Tawi-Tawi

COTABATO CITY - Authorities rescued in separate operations over the weekend 15 human trafficking victims bound for Malaysia without passports, promised with good employment there by recruiters.  

Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, and Army Lt. Gen. Roy Galido of the Western Mindanao Command separately told reporters here Tuesday that the victims are now in the custody of the social welfare office of the local government unit in Bongao municipality.

5 Soldiers dead in shooting rampage inside 4th ID camp

COTABATO CITY -- A soldier killed four companions and wounded another in a shooting rampage inside Camp Evangelista of the 4th Infantry Division in Cagayan de Oro City before dawn Saturday.

The soldier who went berserk, Pvt. Johmar Villabito, was, subsequently, shot dead by responding Pvt. Mark Anthony Aguinid and Pfc. Josiah Estrada.

NPA's `lookout’ in bomb attacks surrender in Sarangani

COTABATO CITY --- A confessed “lookout” in bombings of buses and arson attacks by the New People’s Army surrendered in Sarangani province Thursday. 

Major Alex Rellira, commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said Saturday the NPA member, whom he initially identified only as Jurib for security reasons, turned himself in to the anti-terror Task Force GenSan. 

The NPA has a reputation for attacking members who have surrendered to the government and their relatives.

4,000 liters of diesel from Malaysia seized in Tawi-Tawi

COTABATO CITY - Authorities foiled last weekend an attempt to smuggle 4,000 liters of diesel from Malaysia to Navotas City in the far north via Tawi-Tawi province.

Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, said Tuesday the boat carrying the fuel, the M/V Marnia Penang, was immediately impounded by combined personnel of the Taganak Municipal Police Station, the Maritime Police and the 112th Marine Company of the 12th Marine Battalion.
