2 minors perished in Davao del Sur grenade blast

KIDAPAWAN CITY --- A seven-year-old child was mangled beyond recognition while his younger sibling was seriously hurt, later died in the hospital, Thursday when a grenade they were playing with went off.

The Malalag Municipal Police Station identified the victims as 7-year-old Christian Jay Gecale and his brother 5-year-old Kent Gaspar. 

In an initial statement Friday, the local police said the slain seven-year-old child and his five-year-old brother, Kent, saw the grenade in a grassy spot near their house in Barangay Rizal in Malalag, Davao del Sur and played with it.

3K marijuana plants uprooted, shabu peddler nabbed in Lanao del Sur

COTABATO CITY - A police team uprooted 3,000 marijuana shrubs in the upland Tugaya town in Lanao del Sur Tuesday.

Col. Jibin Bongcayao, director of the Lanao del Sur provincial police, said Wednesday their operation was premised on tips by villagers in Barangay Bago-a-Ingud in Tugaya about the propagation of marijuana by an armed group in the area.

Drug peddler, naaresto ng PNP sa Lanao del Sur

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao - HULI SA IKINASANG ANTI-DRUG operation ng Lanao del Sur PNP ang isang lalaking nagbebenta ng shabu sa bayan ng Tugaya.

Sinabi ni Lanao Sur police director Colonel Jibin Bongcayao na di na nakapalag si Hamsa Dilabayan matapos na siya ay arestuhin ng PNP at Army.

Nakuha sa kanya ang shabu na nagkakahalaga ng mahigit P13,000 at marijuana.

Siya ay nakatakdang kasuhan ngayong araw.

Entrepreneur in Zamboanga del Sur shot dead

COTABATO CITY - Investigators are assessing the possibility that extortionists were behind the murder in public of a businesswoman in Molave town in Zamboanga del Sur early this week.

In a statement Tuesday, the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police said the municipal police forces in the adjoining Molave, Mahayag and Tambulig towns are together trying to identify the killers of the 47-year-old Thea Cabahug Ballesta.

She owned a roadside chicken barbecue eatery in Barangay Makuguhon, Molave.

P3.8-M worth of smuggled cigars seized in Zambo Sur  

COTABATO CITY - The police seized early Sunday P3.8 million worth imported cigarettes smugglers were to deliver to a buyer somewhere in Zamboanga del Sur.

The contraband was intercepted before dawn Sunday by a police team at a checkpoint along a highway in Barangay Camanga in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur.

In a statement Monday, the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office said personnel of the Dumalinao Municipal Police Station also impounded the green Mazda light truck carrying the imported cigarettes.

3 `serial' armed robbers in GenSan busted

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- Three suspects in recent armed robberies here got busted as they motored through a checkpoint after divesting someone of belongings at gunpoint before dawn Sunday.

Vincent Maraon Salazar, John Lei Lambid Frasco and Christian Calderon Caspillo are now in the custody of the General Santos City Police Office.

They were intercepted by a police team that had set a roadblock in Conel Road in Barangay San Isidro here after receiving a report that three men held up a resident in nearby Barangay Bula and escaped using a Rusi motorcycle.

6 dead, 7 hurt in Zambo del Norte highway accident

COTABATO CITY --- Six persons were killed while seven others were badly hurt when a wayward hauler truck rammed an ambulance in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte Wednesday.

Col. Rodrigo Maramo, Zamboanga del Norte police director, on Thursday identified five of the six fatalities as Mario Macatual, Joseph Lopena, Analisa Maribojoc, Princess Gold Ejan Sangilan and Julie Jay Sumonglay.

In an initial statement Wednesday, the Sindangan Municipal Police Station said six persons perished in the accident, one of them still being identified by probers.

Politician, son-in-law killed separately same day in Basilan

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao --- Gunmen shot dead in two attacks within six hours Thursday in Lamitan City in Basilan a defeated mayoral candidate and his son-in-law.

The first to perish was Ujurun Gapal, who lost in his bid for the mayoral post of Akbar town during the May 9 elections.

Akbar is a small town not too distant from Lamitan City, one of the two cities in the island province of Basilan.

Zambo Norte town election officer killed in ambush 

COTABATO CITY - Gunmen killed a municipal election officer in an ambush late Thursday in Piñan town in Zamboanga del Norte.

Maricel Adriatico Peralta, 45, municipal election officer of Mutia town in the same province, died on the spot.

In a statement Friday, the Zamboanga del Norte Police Office said Peralta, an engineer by profession, was driving her black Toyota Vios car when men on motorcycles trailing behind opened fire as they got close, killing her instantly.
