Basilan launches 2022-2025 modern agricultural thrust

COTABATO CITY --- Basilan Gov. Jim Salliman announced Monday he shall focus his third elective term on boosting the productivity of constituents via a modern farming technology they found adaptable in the island province.

The reelected Basilan governor’s third and last three-year tenure starts on June 30, 2022.

“My office shall expand its agriculture and fishery programs using more advanced techniques that we’ve been experimenting on in recent months.” Salliman said.

2 kids dead, 2 hurt in Zambo Sur explosion

COTABATO CITY --- Two grade children were killed while their two playmates were badly injured in an explosion of a still undetermined type of ordnance past at noontime Friday in Barangay Diplo in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

Personnel of the Kumalarang Municipal Police Station are still trying to determine the type of the ordnance that the duo found and went off when one of them hit its tip with a stone.

The eight-year-old John Kin Gregorio and companion, the six-year-old John Leo Miro, died on the spot from shrapnel wounds.

P10-M worth shabu seized in Jolo

COTABATO CITY - State agents seized from two peddlers P10 million worth of shabu in an entrapment operation Tuesday in Jolo, the capital town of Sulu.

Suspects Al-Amin Ismael Sahipa, 39, and his 41-year-old accomplice, Alnasir Kasim Ismun, are now detained, to be prosecuted for violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.

Gunman killed in Zamboanga Sibugay hostage incident

COTABATO CITY --- Policemen shot dead a man who held a woman hostage in Ipil town in Zamboanga Sibugay at about noontime Monday.

Hostage taker Eduardo Pihana Andres died on the spot.

In a statement Monday, the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office said investigators are still trying to determine why Andres held Irene Leyson, pointed a .45 caliber pistol on her head and threatened to shoot her if someone would intervene.

P3.7 million worth shabu seized from slain Tawi-Tawi peddler

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao --- Police agents seized P3.7 million worth of shabu and assorted firearms from a dealer they killed in a brief shootout Monday in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

Brig. Gen. Arthur Cabaluna, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, on Tuesday identified the slain suspect as Abdurahim Jainal, a large-scale shabu dealer in the province of Tawi-Tawi.

P693,000 worth of shabu seized in Sulu sting

COTABATO CITY --- State agents seized P693,600 worth of shabu from four operators of a clandestine drug den in Panamao town in Sulu who fell in an entrapment operation Tuesday.

In a statement Wednesday, the office here of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said suspects Belyamer Ejan, Ben Ejan, Jimboy Muhalim and Dasimir Samudi are now detained.

The PDEA-BARMM said the suspects were immediately frisked and arrested after selling their illegal merchandise to non-uniformed agents in a sting in Barangay Lower Patibulan in Panamao, Sulu.

2 dead, 3 hurt in fishing dynamite blast in Sulu

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao --- Two Tausug men were killed in an accidental explosion of home-made dynamite for illegal fishing in Panglima Estino, Sulu Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Arthur Cabalona, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, said Friday two others, one of them a child, were injured in the blast.

The victims were immediately rushed by responding personnel of the Panglima Estino Municipal Police Station to a hospital for treatment.

6 nabbed for transporting 9 firearms, explosives using government vehicle

COTABATO CITY - The police seized nine firearms and explosives from six men together in a government rescue vehicle that tried to get through a checkpoint in Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Sur Tuesday.

Soldiers and policemen guarding the checkpoint immediately impounded their vehicle, a white Toyota emergency and rescue pick-up truck of the local government unit of Midsalip municipality in Zamboanga del Sur.

3 South Cotabato drug peddlers nabbed, shabu den shut

POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato --- Authorities seized P81,600 worth of shabu from three peddlers entrapped here on Tuesday afternoon.

Naravy Duquiatan, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-12, said Wednesday suspects Roy Bautista Tormon, Joshua Berdigay and Chan Aba are now detained, to be charged with violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

They were immediately arrested after selling their illegal merchandise to non-uniformed agents of PDEA-12 during a tradeoff in Barangay Cannery Site here.

1 dead, 5 hurt in Basilan gun attack

COTABATO CITY --- A bystander was killed while five others were hurt when men armed with assault rifles fired at people in a seaport in Tapiantana Island in Tabuan Lasa town in Basilan at past 2:00 p.m. Monday.

In a statement, the Basilan Provincial Police Office identified the fatality as Ricardo Fabian, who died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

Five others, Andy Reyes, Narrudin Gadjali, Alnasri Jammang, Boli Madalis and Hakim Monib, were hurt in the attack.

They were immediately rushed to a hospital in Isabela City, Basilan.
