4 cops hurt in Zamboanga del Sur road accident

COTABATO CITY -- Four policemen were badly hurt in a vehicular accident Wednesday in Payao town in Zamboanga del Sur.

Lt. Herod Partosa of the Payao Municipal Police Station said the injured Master Sgt. Sonny Jasani and Patrolmen Corneliu Lopena, Frank Drapeza and Elizer Garingo are now confined in a hospital.

Partosa said the four policemen were together in a Mahindra patrol vehicle that wiggled, flipped and turned-turtle while maneuvering through a stretch of a highway in Sitio Subing Subing in Barangay Guintolan in Payao, Zamboanga del Sur.

30 Lanao Sur Dawlah members face criminal charges

COTABATO CITY - The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group charged Thursday 30 members of the Dawlah Islamiya group with violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Major Esmael Madin, provincial officer for Lanao del Sur of the CIDG-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, said Friday the group figured in bloody encounters with units of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade in Maguing town last month.

A soldier, Pvt. Clint Rey Armada, and seven of its members were killed in the hostilities then in Maguing, located in the first district of Lanao del Sur.

LTFRB-12 reopens free ride program for medical front-liners

KORONADAL CITY – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Soccsksargen  (LTFRB-12) has announced the resumption of their service contracting program called “Libreng Sakay” for medical health workers, among others.

LTFRB-12 Director Paterno Reynato Padua said Wednesday the “Libreng Sakay” started in selected routes that do not need justification in their service contract.

Cop killed, 3 arrested in Zamboanga del Sur gunfight

COTABATO CITY --- A policeman was killed while another was hurt in a brief clash with gunmen in Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday morning.

Three of the suspects who figured in the gunfight with the team of intelligence agents from the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office that resulted in the death of Staff Sgt. Khalid Jade Dacula got arrested the same day in a subsequent pursuit operation.

In a statement released late Tuesday, the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office said Dacula died on the spot from gunshot wounds.

2 men wanted for separate murder cases arrested

COTABATO CITY - The police in the Bangsamoro region arrested two murder suspects in separate operations Tuesday in Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao provinces that relatives of the duo assisted.

The first to fall was Remark Garay, who was cornered by a police team in Barangay San Jose in Quezon town in Bukidnon.

He is wanted in Wao, Lanao del Sur and Quezon for murder and frustrated murder.

14-year-old terror group member surrender to Army

COTABATO CITY - A 14-year-old member of the Dawlah Islamiya, who acted as the group’s courier of home-made bombs in Lanao del Sur, surrendered to the Army Monday. 

The child bolted from the Dawlah Islamiya terror group through the efforts of the Army’s 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion. 

He turned in a .45 caliber pistol and a bolt-action 7.62 caliber sniper rifle to Army officials during a simple surrender rite in Iligan City.

Zambo Norte cops mourn death of colleague in accident

COTABATO CITY--- The Zamboanga del Norte provincial police is mourning the demise of a policewoman from its ranks in a tragic highway mishap Thursday that left four companions dead.

The fatality, Patrolwoman Florilyn Balansag died on the spot when the patrol vehicle carrying her and four companions went wayward and hit a tree along a highway in Barangay Santo Niño in Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Lawmen uproot, burn 125 marijuana plants in Sarangani

KORONADAL CITY - State agents uprooted and burned 125 marijuana shrubs in an anti-narcotics operation in Barangay Malabud in Malungon town in Sarangani Monday.

Naravy Duquiatan, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-12, said Tuesday marijuana propagator Reynante Ozano Buan was arrested in the operation, now clamped down in a detention facility of the Malungon Municipal Police Station.

6 NPAs surrender to Region 12 police

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- Six members of the New People’s Army, three of them collectors of “protection money” from hapless farmers, surrendered to the police yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, director of the Police Regional Office-12, said Friday the six NPAs have pledged allegiance to the government during a simple rite in Tampakan town in South Cotabato.

The group belonged to the NPA’s self-styled Guerilla Front 73-Far South Mindanao Region, whose leaders are facing high-profile criminal cases in different courts.

P900K worth of smuggled cigarettes seized in Sulu

COTABATO CITY --- The police seized P900,000 worth of undocumented imported cigarettes Tuesday in Indanan town in Sulu.

Major Edwin Sapa, chief of the Indanan Municipal Police Station, said Wednesday the contraband was found neatly piled near a small wharf in Barangay Buansa by patrolling policemen.

He said there were indications that the cigarettes in sealed boxes, said to have come in Indonesia, have just been unloaded from a small watercraft that berthed at the BF Wharf in Barangay Buansa in Indanan, Sulu.
