Pinker’s hawk-eagle rescued, freed in NoCot

COTABATO CITY - A juvenile Pinker's hawk-eagle (Nisaetus pinskeri), rescued by a farmer in Magpet, North Cotabato, had been freed back to the wild on Wednesday.

In a statement, Environment officials said the unidentified farmer found the big bird weak in an open-space farmland In Barangay Amabel, Magpet, North Cotabato on Monday, March 14.

Forester Rosie Camiguing, chief of DENR Protected and Wildlife Unit (PAWU), said the raptor was weak and had lost its ability to fly.

Russian couple penalized for Mt. Apo trekking attempt without permits, guide

KIDAPAWAN CITY - the DENR PASu called the attention of the two foreign trekkers who happened to climb Mt. Apo last March 11, 2023 without permit and guide, purposely to remind them of the existing policies of the Protected Area Management Board - No Permit No Climb Policy.

The City Tourism Promotions Office and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Protected Area Management Office would like "to impose the strict implementation of our protocols and policies to ensure a safe and memorable experience for our trekkers."

KORONADAL CITY - After the recent operation against a vlogger for alleged wildlife hunting and trading, several residents of Barangay Pangyan in this town voluntarily surrendered their caged wildlife to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12.

Sarangani vlogger faces criminal charges for wildlife hunting, selling

KORONADAL CITY - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 is preparing a complaint against a vlogger in Barangay Pangyan of this town for alleged wildlife hunting and selling.

Dr. Rosalinda B. Cortez, CENR Officer of Glan, said the team composed of CENRO Glan and PNP Maritime conducted an operation against the vlogger after receiving reports and a week of surveillance.

Magnitude 6 quake jolts Davao de Oro

KIDAPAWAN CITY - A magnitude 6 earthquake rocked Davao region early evening today with its epicenter found in New Bataan, DAvao de Oro, the state volcanology office said.

Ang tremor that came at 6:44 p.m. tectonic in origin and caused minor damages as per reports by various media organizations and the social media. 

Phivolcs said aftershocks were also reported.  About 20 aftershocks were detected as of posting.

15K water birds sighted in Soccsksargen

TACURONG CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Soccsksargen Region (DENR-12) said Thursday it has sighted over 15,700 water birds in fowl sanctuaries across the region.

DENR-12 data showed that 6,171 water birds were sighted in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat province; followed by Sarangani with over 4,000; and the cities of Tacurong and General Santos with 2,964 and 2,593 species, respectively.

Philippine Serpent Eagle rescued in Tacurong City

KORONADAL CITY - A juvenile Philippine serpent eagle was turned over on Friday (January 13) to the DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Tacurong City after it was rescued by a student.

CENR Officer Dr. Badjury H. Mustapha said that Keith Chester, a senior high school student from Notre Dame of Tacurong College, sought the assistance of police officers in Barangay New Carmen after he found the wildlife weak and unable to fly.

Patrolman Romnick Cana Valenzuela turned over the eagle DENR-CENRO Tacurong City for proper handling and care.

Thousands affected by floods in Lamitan City 

COTABATO CITY -Five barangays in Lamitan City have been flooded since Wednesday following heavy downpours, affecting no fewer than 10,000 villagers,
 
Local officials told reporters here via text messages Thursday that personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), rescue teams from the local police and the Bureau of Fire Protection, have relocated the flood-stricken residents to evacuation sites in higher grounds.
 

12 barangays in Isabela City, Basilan flooded

COTABATO CITY - Flashfloods, spawned by heavy rains, swept through 12 barangays in Isabela City in Basilan before dawn Wednesday, affecting thousands of villagers.

Local officials and personnel of the Isabela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office told reporters calamity responders have been dispatched to flooded areas to help relocate residents to higher grounds.

Worst hit by rampaging floodwaters were Isabela City’s Barangays Baluno, Lanote, Aguada, Sunrise, Cabunbanta, Menzi, Sumagdang, Makiri, Isabela Proper, Riverside, Kumalarang and Tabuk.

Heavy rains dampen Christmas celebrations in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY – Heavy rains lashing most parts of the Caraga Region since Saturday have forced residents to abandon their abodes for safety due to floods.

The local government units (LGUs) have mobilized their respective disaster response teams as rainfall warnings were issued on Sunday in the provinces of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.
