2 dead in separate suicide incidents

KORONADAL CITY --- Two residents killed themselves  in separate incidents Wednesday in nearby Norala, South Cotabato Wednesday. 

The Police Regional Office-12 identified the fatalities as Noel Montes Morales, 51, and the 49-year-old Joel Jayawon Porte, residents of Barangays San Jose and Kibid in Noralla town, respectively.

Noralla is an agricultural town in South Cotabato province.

Morales and Porte hanged themselves using ropes Wednesday, according to PRO-12.

Region 12 extends help to typhoon-stricken Region 13

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- The Dept. of the Interior and Local Government-12 and other cooperating line agencies dispatched Tuesday 24 vehicles, including dump trucks, full of relief provisions for typhoon-stricken areas in the Caraga Region.

The humanitarian mission is a common initiative of the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Regional Task Force on COVID-19.

The project is dubbed “Pamaskong Handog ng Dose sa Trese,” which, in context, means relief support from Region 12 to Region 13.

Pinoys urged to show Christmas spirit by helping typhoon victims

MANILA – Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula on Friday called for solidarity with the people affected by Typhoon Odette.

In an interview with Radio Veritas, Advincula urged the Filipinos to unite in responding to the needs of the people in Visayas and Mindanao and show the true spirit of Christmas.

"We are with you as you rise, as you face a new morning; I urge all to sympathize and care for our brothers and sisters who have been devastated by the storm, let us help them recover and begin again," he said.

Minor killed, another hurt in Zamboanga seaside blast

COTABATO CITY --- A male adolescent was killed while another was hurt in what could be a grenade blast in Rio Hondo area in Zamboanga City past noontime Monday.

The victims were collecting scrap metal and recyclable wastes along the coast of Rio Hondo area in Zamboanga City when they found a rusty explosive that went off when one of them hit it with a hard object.

One of the two male minors, Erikson Bantuhan, 12, died from blast injuries instantly.

Man arrested for molesting 3 girls in GenSan

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- Policemen arrested on Monday a 34-year-old man after molesting three grade school girls in an abandoned house here.

Rape suspect Jonathan Jamalu is now in the custody of the General Santos City Police Station 7.

Police Major Rissa Hernaez, chief of Police Station 7, said Tuesday the suspect is also wanted for rape in Sultan Kudarat province, about an hour away via overland travel from this city.

Soldiers overrun NPA lair in Lanao del Sur

COTABATO CITY --- Soldiers overran a hinterland hideout in Maguing, Lanao del Sur of the New Peoples Army after an hour-long gunfight Tuesday.

Lt. Col. Romulus Rabara, commanding officer ng 51st IB, said Wednesday it was vigilant residents who led them into the NPA hideout in a secluded spot atop a hill overlooking the town center of Maguing.

Personnel of the 51st IB first traded shots with no fewer than 30 NPAs holding out in the area before they outmaneuvered the rebels who eventually fled towards different directions.

1002nd Brigade members destroy firearms from NPAs

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Soldiers on Wednesday destroyed more than 30 assault rifles turned in by New People’s Army guerillas in recent weeks.

The firearms were cut into pieces using power tools by personnel of the Army’s 1002nd Brigade at their headquarters in Malungon town in Sarangani, an activity witnessed by reporters from across central Mindanao.

The event was also capped off with the surrender of a ranking NPA leader, whose name was withheld pending his relocation to a safe area.

Residents lead authorities to Tampakan Marijuana farm

KORONADAL CITY  --- It was for the vigilant indigenous Blaans and non-Blaan settlers in Tampakan, South Cotabato that authorities learned of the large-scale propagation by farmer Jimben Sinaya of Marijuana in the municipality.

Combined agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-12 and personnel of units under the Police Regional Office-12 on Saturday raided Sinaya’s farm in Sitio Tukaymal in Barangay Tablu, Tampakan and uprooted his 12,000 Marijuana plants.
