Poe: Require 'live selfie' in SIM sign up

MANILA – Senator Grace Poe requested on Friday concerned agencies and telecommunications companies (telcos) to make "selfies" a requirement in the subscriber identity module (SIM) registration.

To prevent more fraud and scamming, Poe said selfies or one's photograph taken by oneself, should be part of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 11934 or the SIM Registration Act.

MILG's project "TuGoN" okays ex-combatants' business plans, ensures sustainable livelihood

Project TuGoN, or Tulong ng Gobyernong Nagmamalasakit, of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Tourism, validated the proposed business plans and locations of 115 former members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.

In a statement, the MILG said it took place in barangays of the Special Geographic Area and municipalities in Maguindanao del Sur from August 21 to 25, 2023.

Ayon kay Atty. Sumalipao, handang gawin ng COMELEC ang planong early voting hours.

Layunin aniya nito na gawing prayoridad sa pagboto ang nasabing mga vulnerable sektor tulad ng senior citizens, may mga kapansanan o PWDs, indigenous people at mga buntis para hindi na sila kailangan pang pumila.

Comelec, PH Army beef up security preps for October BSKE

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will coordinate with the Philippine Army to beef up security preparations for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Oct. 30. 

In a Viber message, Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said newly installed Philippine Army Commanding General Lt.Gen. Roy Galido on Friday paid a courtesy call to Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia. 

PBBM names Galido as 66th Philippine Army chief

ZAMBOANGA CITY - President Ferdinand BongBong Marcos Jr today appointed Lt. Gen. Roy Galido as the 66th commanding general of the Phillippine Army, replacing Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner who was named AFP chief earlier. 

Galido belonged to PMA Class 90 Bigkis Lahi and currently the head of Western Mindanao Command based in Zamboanga City. 

Comelec: Poll materials safe from ‘Palacio’ building fire

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has assured that no materials for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) were affected following a minor fire incident at the Palacio del Gobernador (PDG) in Manila Monday afternoon.

In a statement, Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said the fire razed the office of the Bureau of the Treasury on the sixth floor of PDG.

"No aspect of the BSKE preparations, as well as Comelec general administration activities and regular operations, were affected by the fire," Laudiangco said.

2 centenarians get P110k cash gift from gov’t

KORONADAL CITY – Two centenarians belonging to Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities in Gen. Santos City and South Cotabato have received their respective centenarian gifts from the government on Thursday.

Luheng Aloy Cayok, 103-year-old Tboli man from Barangay San Jose, Gen. Santos City and 101-year-old Blaan matriarch Rebecca Latimbon Sambog of Tupi, South Cotabato could not hold their tears as they received the P100,000 cash gift from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).

Retired Marines in C. Mindanao sad over Biazon's demise

COTABATO CITY - Retired members of the Philippine Marine Corps now residing in different towns in central Mindanao were saddened by the demise on Monday, June 12, of former Armed Forces Chief of Staff and ex-senator Rodolfo Biazon.

Biazon, 88, died of lung cancer, detected last year and worsened by pneumonia, according to sources from the Philippine Marines, among them officers of the 1st Marine Brigade based in Barira town in Maguindanao del Norte.

Sen. Rodolfo Biazon passes away, 88

MANILA - Former Senator and AFP Chief of Staff Rodolfo Gaspar Biazon has passed away Monday mornign after battling with pneumonia, one of his sons said.

He was 88 years old.

“Thank you so much for all the prayers. It was truly worth it. Papa fought a long and exhausting battle,” Rino Biazon, the senator’s son, said in a Facebook post.

“It’s time to get rest, Papa! We love you so dearly! Thanks for bringing HONOR to the Biazon family. We are so proud of you!”
