UPDATE: Mayor Bruce condemns recent shooting in the city; Army colonel under OPAPRU survives ambush

COTABATO CITY – Mayor Bruce Matabalao has condemned the series of shooting incidents in the city, the latest of which, was the ambush of an Army colonel’s vehicle along Sinsuat Avenue, on Saturday night.

Police have not released details of the latest incident, citing investigation is still going on.

No word from Cotabato City police director Colonel Querubin Manalang or his subordinates on the ambush of a certain retired Lt. Colonel Macalintangui.

Truce ends Army-MILF showdown in Basilan

COTABATO CITY - Local executives assured Friday to help monitor the interim truce meant to stave off hostilities between the military and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan.

Four MILF members and three soldiers were Killed in the three day clashes in Barangay Ulitan, Ungkaya Pukan that started Tuesday.

Ito ay matapos matukoy na isa sa mga suspek sa bus bombing incident sa Tacurong City ang pasahero ding si Esmael Tamama Daomilang, 55 anyos na nagtamo ng matinding mga sugat.

Aniya, may malinaw nang lead sa posibleng may dala ng pampasabog, kabilang ang isa sa apat na babaeng sumakay ng bus sa Mlang, North Cotabato at bumaba sa harap ng Iglesia ni Kristo bus stop area ng Tacurong.

Sinabi ni Maj. Gen. Rojas na ang information hinggil sa apat na pasaherong babae ay mula sa driver at conductor ng bus.

Authorities: 2 terror groups connived in bus bombing

TACURONG CITY - Investigators are convinced the Al-Khobar and its ally, the Dawlah Islamiya, connived in Sunday’s bombing of a bus here that left a passenger dead and hurt 11 others.

Both groups are known for bombing public conveyances and business establishments to compel owners to pay "protection money" on monthly basis.

1 dead, 11 hurt in Tacurong City bus bombing

COTABATO CITY - A passenger was killed while 11 others were badly hurt in a bomb explosion inside a bus in Tacurong City at noontime Sunday.

Lt. Col. Joan Maganto, chief of the Tacurong City Police, said Sunday the unit of the Yellow Bus Company was on its way to the city terminal, from North Cotabato, when the improvised explosive device went off.

Probers are certain the IED used in the attack was detonated from a distance using a mobile phone.

Soldier dead, 2 hurt in BIFF attack; IEDs found along highway

COTABATO CITY - A soldier was killed while two others were wounded when local terrorists fired at an Army team out on a humanitarian mission in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur late Friday.

Major Gen. Roy Galido, commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, and Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region on Saturday separately condemned the atrocity, perpetrated by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

Col. Michael Santos, commander of the Army’s 603rd Infantry Brigade, said Tuesday Emmanuel Fernandez died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.
