Contaminants found in fake rice sample

MANILA (PNA) -- The Food Development Center (FDC) of the National Food Authority (NFA) on Friday said that laboratory tests showed that the rice sample from Davao City contained a contaminant which it strongly suspected could be dibutyl phtalate, a chemical used as plasticizer that is commonly used in making flexible plastic products.FDC director Jocelyn Sales, however, noted that her office has still to perform additional tests on the fake rice sample to conclusively validate if it is truly dibutyl phtalate that is present in the said sample.Sales said the fake rice sample from Davao als

Kidapawan village health stations to get P1.5 fund assistance

KIDAPAWAN CITY - Seven villages here will soon receive P1.5 million fund assistance for village health stations.Mayor Joseph Evangelista said the assistance aims to make barangay health stations improve its services and get accreditation by PhilHealth.Once the village health station is PhilHealth accredited, it can facilitate delivery or serve as birthing station. The local government is awaiting the additional P10 million for the completion of Kidapawan City health complex and Maternal and Child Care Center.

N. Cotabato dengue cases on the rise

KIDAPAWAN CITY -The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in North Cotabato has recorded from first until second quarter of this year a 50 percent increase of dengue cases as compared to last year of the same period. IPHO-Cotabato chief Dr. Eva Rabaya said that based on their monitoring, the cases numbered to 1,000, some 50 percent increase as compared to last year. In 2014, it recorded 595 cases. Of the 17 towns and a city in North Cotabato, Midsayap has the most number of dengue cases second is Kidapawan City and third, Tulunan.

BFAR advisory affects marine products sales in Kidapawan

KIDAPAWAN CITY - Marine products vendorsin Kidapawan City mega market have been complaining of low sales after a government agency regulating marine products warned the public against eating shell fish.Sea shells displayed at the city market were from Barangay Mati, Digos City and inDavao del Sur coastal towns.The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported that the coastal villages of Davao del Sur could be contaminated with red tide.But vendors said no complained about red tide contaminated marine products have been raised. The BFAR also have not received complaints.

Cotabato City lawmaker eyes new physical fitness site for Cotabatenios

COTABATO CITY - City Councilor Mohammad Ali Bruce Matabalao has filed a proposed ordinancedesignating portions of the Sinsuat Avenue as physical fitness area for joggers, health enthusiasts and to promote better health for Cotabatenios.Matabalao, a sports enthusiast, file the proposed ordinance on Monday. It is entitled An ordinance designating 4 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays as physical fitness hours and authorizing the closure of a portion of Sinsuat Avenue, particularly from corner Quezon Avenue to corner Sousa Street.

DOE extends medical help to Makilala health station

North Cotabato – The health station of Barangay Batasan here
have received essential medical equipment and assorted medicine from the
Department of Energy (DOE), officials said today.
The
medical equipment consisting of examination table, doopler, delivery cart,
delivery table, sterilizer, stainless dressing carts, dressing tray and many
others were donated by the DOE Reforestation Watershed Management, Health and
Environment Enhancement Fund (RWMHEEF).
