Red-backed sea eagle rescued in Maguindanao

                      

COTABATO CITY - The BARMM-MENRE, through CENRO-1A Maguindanao and the Biodiversity Management Services, has rescued a Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) or red-backed sea eagle, locally known as ‘Lawin,’ that was found by a concerned citizen in Bulalo, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

North Cotabato floods submerge 100 homes in Midsayap

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato – A day-long heavy downpour Saturday triggered flash floods in North Cotabato as major riber tributaries have overflowed.

In Barangay Kadigasan here, residents were "lockdown" inside their homes as the water leverl along waterways and canals rose to as high as waist level. 

Barangay Kadigasan chairperson Norodin Mohammad while huge part of the village have been underwater for more than six hours, no resident have fled to safer grounds since the water subsided later in the day on Saturday.

3 tarsiers rescued, freed in Sarangani

TARSIERS IN SARANGANI.

DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) of Sarangani Renato C. Domingo revealed that a concerned citizen surrendered three Philippine Tarsiers (Carlito syrichta) in his office in Alabel, Sarangani on Monday.

PENRO Domingo said that Engelberto J. Gran together with his men found the small primates in Gran's farm at Barangay Bagakay in Alabel.

KIDAPAWAN CITY - Ang tarsier na na rescue sa Purok San Isidro, Barangay Baguntapay, M'lang, North Cotabato ay ibinalik na sa gubat ng Barangay Dunguan, malapit sa Liguasan Marsh area.

Ito na ang panglimang pagkakataon na may na rescue na tarsier sa Mlang mula noong nakaraang taon.

 

 

U.S. funds P 1.1-B PH biodiversity project

Manila, August 11, 2020 — THE U.S. government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has launched a P 1.1 billion ($22 million) biodiversity project with the Philippine Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Dubbed the Philippines Sustainable Interventions for Biodiversity, Oceans, and Landscapes (SIBOL), the project is designed to support the continuing management of the country’s natural resources and combat environmental crimes and hazards.

Another Basilan greenhouse up

COTABATO CITY --- The provincial government of Basilan is setting up another large greenhouse for vegetables and other short-term crops in support of its food sufficiency program.

The office of Basilan Gov. Jim Salliman said in a statement Wednesday that their second greenhouse project is located in Barangay Taberlongan in Maluso town.

The Salliman administration is also presently setting up a multi-million ice plant and cold storage facility in Maluso, one of the fishing hubs in the island Basilan province.

Strengthened marine turtles protection

GLAN, Sarangani - Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) of Glan in Sarangani Province Abdul D. Cariga unveiled that a circular fiber tank, which will serve as a holding or recovery tank for rescued or stranded marine turtles, was turned over by the RD Foundation Incorporated (RDFI) to the local government unit of Glan on Friday, July 24.

DENR, MAKIMA stakeholders to plant 2 million trees by 2023

KIAMBA, Sarangani province - The collaborative efforts of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the municipalities of Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum (MAKIMA) are envisioned towards planting of 2 million trees in the next three years.

In an interview with the CENR Officer Ali M. Hadjinasser, PhD on the reforestation program of CENRO Kiamba, he said, “We also have an overwhelming support from Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) who are willing to take part in our advocacy to have a sustainable environment”.

DENR inaugurates 1st marine turtle hatchery in Kalamansig

KALAMANSIG, Sultan Kudarat -  The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Kalamansig inaugurated the town’s first ever marine turtle hatchery on Wednesday, July 1, in Sitio Poral, Barangay Santa Maria in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat Province.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA), which serves as an attestation of co-management and partnership, was signed by CENR Officer Saga A. Akmad and Barangay Chairman Enrique F. Staples.

According to CENRO Akmad, the land where the hatchery was established is owned by Erland Staples.

"Hot lumbers" seize in Alamada, North Cotabato

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato - Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) of Midsayap in Cotabato Province Badjury H. Mustapha bared that his office seized the 3,074 board feet of undocumented forest products in Alamada town on June 23.

According to CENRO Mustapha, they were notified by a concerned citizen regarding the possible illegal logs along the barangay road of Purok 5, Sitio Katud-an in Barangay Pacao of the said town.
