KIAMBA, Sarangani province - The collaborative efforts of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the municipalities of Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum (MAKIMA) are envisioned towards planting of 2 million trees in the next three years.

In an interview with the CENR Officer Ali M. Hadjinasser, PhD on the reforestation program of CENRO Kiamba, he said, “We also have an overwhelming support from Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) who are willing to take part in our advocacy to have a sustainable environment”.

KALAMANSIG, Sultan Kudarat -  The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Kalamansig inaugurated the town’s first ever marine turtle hatchery on Wednesday, July 1, in Sitio Poral, Barangay Santa Maria in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat Province.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA), which serves as an attestation of co-management and partnership, was signed by CENR Officer Saga A. Akmad and Barangay Chairman Enrique F. Staples.

According to CENRO Akmad, the land where the hatchery was established is owned by Erland Staples.

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato - Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) of Midsayap in Cotabato Province Badjury H. Mustapha bared that his office seized the 3,074 board feet of undocumented forest products in Alamada town on June 23.

According to CENRO Mustapha, they were notified by a concerned citizen regarding the possible illegal logs along the barangay road of Purok 5, Sitio Katud-an in Barangay Pacao of the said town.

RESCUED BLACK-WINGED KITE. The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Matalam secured the safety of a juvenile Black-winged kite (Elanus caeruleus) after it was rescued recently by a concerned citizen in Kabacan town, Cotabato Province.

CENR Officer Calil A. Bantuas said that the species was saved by Kenneth Balbin on June 26 in Barangay Malamote after it was attacked by a group of crows in a rice field near their house.

According to the report, Royette Posadas, a resident of the said barangay, posted the incident to the social media.

KORONADAL CITY - To ensure smooth implementation of programs, activities and projects under the 2020 Work and Financial Plan on the management, protection and compliance to Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas (ENIPAS) Act of 2018, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 has conducted its first Protected Area Superintendent (PASu) Conference on Wednesday, June 24 at the agency’s function hall, here.

KIAMBA, SARANGANI PROVINCE - In commemoration of the World Sea Turtles Day on June 16, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-12) through the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) of Kiamba announced that its collaborative efforts have improved the conservation of marine turtles.

As a proof, the CENRO and its partners managed to release more than 10,000 hatchlings back to their natural habitat during the first six months of this year as a result of efforts for the protection of this endangered species.

COTABATO CITY – The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Midsayap in Cotabato Province secured the safety of a Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) after it was turned over to the office by a concerned citizen.

CENR Officer Badjury H. Mustapha said that the wild bird was rescued on Sunday, June 14, by Meilin Abigail A. Abang, a senior high school teacher of Notre Dame University in this city.

According to Abang, the bird descended in a clothes line near her house.

KIDAPAWN CITY  – Despite the coronavirus pandemic, personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in North Cotabato did not lower its guards and continued implementing forestry laws.

On Wednesday, the anti-illegal logging task force (AILTF) of the Midsayap Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 12 seized 1,520 board feet of undocumented forest products in Aleosan, North Cotabato.

KIDAPAWAN CITY  – To improve delivery of environmental services, protection and conservation of natural resources amid coronavirus pandemic, the Department of Environment in the Soccsksargen region has established Wednesday a satellite office in President Roxas, North Cotabato.

The creation of satellite office, a sub office of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) was indicative of the DENR-12 officials’ determination to serve the people at the same time protect the environment.

The sub-office will be known as CENRO-Roxas.

KORONADAL CITY - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Soccsksargen region (DENR-12) has new regional executive director.

Lawyer Felix S. Alicer has been official installed by DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations, Enforcement and Muslim Affairs Jim O Sampulna, CESO III together with DENR Assistant Secretary for Field Operations in Western Mindanao Metodio U. Turbella today formally installed Atty. Felix S. Alicer as the new Regional Executive Director (RED) of DENR Region-12 during ceremonies at the regional office here.
